Don't Stop Now

If you are feeling heavy and weighted, then you are living. God never promised that as His children we would not endure some hard seasons. He never promised that we would not be challenged. In fact, He encourages us to rid ourselves of those things that may cause us to be distracted and stop.

I love the scripture found in Hebrews 12:1-2

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

This scripture shares a few points with us that should lift us as we read.

1. Release the thing(s) that can hinder our forward movement
So many of us as believers are running this race with “weights” that we don’t feel we need to release. Yet, so many of us are being ‘tripped up’ by those very things because we reason that this particular behavior won’t keep us out of heaven. Truthfully, it may not keep us out of heaven, but it will slow us down in our movement to fulfill the call of God on our lives. It may even slow down or deter another believer as they walk with us.

2. We all have our own races to run; no two races are the same
Keep your eyes on Jesus. Don’t look at another runner to compare their race and yours. We all have our challenges; we all have our distractions; we all have our roadblocks. We are challenged to run our own races. The enemy of our souls can be the ‘art of comparison’. It’s a weight that we need to release. You and I have been given what we need to be successful in this race. We have been trained/are still training in the necessary skills needed to be successful. The first skill is to stay focused on the Father; don’t falter in skill as it will be the foundation for all the others to build upon.

3. Jesus ran His race as an example for us
If we take our time and examine the life of Jesus, we would find key points that would allow us to run successfully. A few that we should note, exemplify, and model in our own lives include: regular communication and relationship with the Father, strong community, and taking every opportunity to introduce someone to the Father. We won’t be perfect the first time we attempt it. However, if we are following the pattern of Jesus and the voice of the Holy Spirit, we will cross the finish line well.

This is not the time to give up and stop. So many have been in this race for a long time.If we stop now, the enemy wins. So what are we going to do this week?

  • Ask the Father to point out to us the things that we need to ‘lay aside’.
  • Ask the Father to allow us the opportunity to strengthen our communication with God; we want to hear him, we want to follow His leading.
  • Ask the Father to give us what we need to keep answering the call on our lives.

We can’t stop now; we’ve come too far on our journey!
