I Want To Be Ready

As I listened to Pastor George’s sermon on Sunday, I remembered growing up and waking up on a quiet Saturday morning. I’m doing my usual moves of turning on the TV to some cartoons, pouring a bowl of cereal, and relaxing as normal. But this day was different. It was quiet…a little too quiet. I then realize that I had not heard or seen ANYBODY in my family all morning. My most irrational fear had come true – I had MISSED the Rapture! How did I let this happen?! I was sure I was good enough to be taken up. How did my sister make it and not me?!

Needless to say, this was all just a matter of forgetting my parents had somewhere to be with my sister, but the fear was definitely real! Recently there has been a trend on TikTok that said the Rapture was to happen on September 23 and 24 this year. People are going as far as quitting their jobs and even selling all of their belongings in anticipation. At the time of this writing nothing has happened. And if you are reading this, I didn’t waste my time writing it. Predictions for the final days are not new, but they are also not Biblical in any way.

Matthew 24:36 says “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.” Acts 1:7 says,” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.” Both of these scriptures are proof that prediction of such a day is futile. But the question remains as to WHY people continuously try and look to this point. Is it fear? Is it hope?

I believe the main thing we should remember in these trying times in our world is that we should live every day as if it could be our last. When I was younger, there was always a fear of not being adequate or not doing the wrong things so I could rest assured that I would make it to the King. As I got older, I realized that I began to get more and more careless about how I carry myself in my daily interactions and actions. I am no longer as concerned with the fact that, at any moment, Jesus WILL be coming back.

Let’s not be deceived by the conspiracy theories and false prophets of our time but let us also not be deceived by the idea that “I’ve got time.” Live every day as if it will be your last. Mark 13:33 says, “Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come.” Let’s not fall asleep into the slumber of complacency. Our enemy is not always pursuing us as an aggressive lion. Sometimes he can come in the form of unsafe contentment in where we are, who we are, and how we are. Let’s continuously look to the Lord for guidance and true fulfillment and never forget that He’s not going to give us a warning. It’s like the old folks used to say , “Be ye ever ready.”

Rooted In Love,
Pastor Thaddaeus
